The results of this competition may be used to staff similar term or indeterminate positions within the Communications Division over the next twelve months, following the results of the competition.

Builds relations with the media, government departments, university communications departments, the research community, communications contractors and NSERC staff at all levels with the goal of promoting NSERC and NSERC-funded research to as many Canadians as possible.
Writes and supervises the writing of media materials such as news releases, speeches, background documents and Qs&As. Also produces articles, research profiles, social media content and other documents intended to inform the media and various audiences about NSERC’s objectives and activities.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized college or university with specialization in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or other discipline relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Significant* experience in media relations, public relations and/or journalism;
Experience in science and/or promotional writing;
Experience with internal communications.
*Significant is equivalent to three (3) or more years of experience.
Knowledge of media and public relations techniques and trends;
Knowledge of the web, evolving media, social media and other electronic information dissemination systems, its planning and delivery.
Ability to organize and coordinate the participation of senior officials in special events such as program announcements, seminars or conferences;
Ability to communicate (both orally and in writing) in an articulate, well organized fashion;
Ability to work with media, senior managers, and researchers in universities, industry and government;
Ability to analyze, conceive, develop, implement and manage complex communications/media plans, strategies and activities;
Ability to understand, analyze and make communications recommendations regarding Canadian science and technology issues;
Ability to manage conflicting priorities, to multi-task and to work under time-sensitive conditions on high profile projects.
