QUALIFICATIONS

To join The Lorne Scots and be a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (Primary Reserve) you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen,
  • Be at least 16 years old as a full-time student (with parental or guardian consent) or 17 years old if not in school (with parental or guardian consent),
  • Have a minimum grade 10 level of education (15 High School credits)

If an applicant is found eligible and suitable based on the Application Process, the applicant will be offered a job and must complete Basic Military Qualification and Infantry courses in order to become a fully qualified Infantry Soldier. The time span of these courses amounts to about 3-6 months which can be completed whether going through it full time; a co-op program; or broken up over weekends depending on what suits best for the candidate. This is the only full time commitment that is required to be a member of the CAF Primary Reserve.

Physical Fitness

As an infantry soldier, one must maintain a high level of physical fitness in order to be an effective member of one’s team and contribute positively to the success of their missions and tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties

As the Army’s primary war-fighters and the core of the combat arms team, infantry soldiers are responsible for closing with and destroying the enemy. Supported by the artillery, regiments of armour and the combat engineers, infantry soldiers are capable of operating anywhere in the world in any environment - arctic tundra, mountains, jungle or desert - and in any combination of arms, including airmobile and amphibious operations.

OUR ORGANIZATION

The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin, and Halton Regiment) is a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Primary Reserve infantry regiment with companies in Brampton, Georgetown and a detachment in Oakville.

Members of the Unit serve part time in the CAF. Their main role is to support the Regular Force at home and abroad. In recent years, members of the unit have made substantial contributions to Canada's expeditionary (international) and/or domestic operations.

Many Reservists have full-time careers outside the CAF in a wide range of civilian occupations. Others are full-time students, either in high school, college or university.

Work Hours (Training)

Regular

  • Thursdays 7:30pm-10:30pm
  • (1 weekend a month) Friday 7:30pm – Sunday 5pm

Other Opportunities

  • Week(s) long training exercises (domestic and abroad) every year.
  • Once fully qualified, you can be employed full-time during the summer (May-August) as support staff in different Canadian Forces Bases across the country.
  • You will be paid to take career advancement courses. These courses are usually broken up on weekends or full time during the summer.

Base Pay

$96.06/day base pay, $140.12/day after two years of committed service.
