The Centre for Urban Health Solutions (C-UHS) Survey Research Unit (SRU) at St. Michael’s Hospital is currently seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Research Assistant I. The Research Assistant will be part of a dynamic Unit that oversees a variety of research and evaluation projects related to health equity and social determinants of health. The Research Assistant’s primary responsibilities will be interviewing and assisting participants with self-administered surveys. This is a 12 month casual position, with a possibility of extension. Anticipated start date: Immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attend the Basic Income Pilot Evaluation enrolment sessions in Hamilton/Brantford and assist participants with the completion of the Evaluation baseline survey. These are typically 8 hour sessions. Multiple sessions happen per week. You will be assigned to sessions based on your availability.
  • Adhere to project protocols, including ethics, security, data transfer/storage and quality control.
  • Potentially assist with:
    • Participant tracking
    • In-person interviewing in participants homes
    • Phone interviewing
    • Data entry and quality control
  • Graduate of a community college or relevant experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with research participant tracking and interviewing.
  • Experience relating to people experiencing poverty, housing instability, disability, mental health problems, addictions, language barriers, literacy barriers.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of organization is essential to this position.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced work environment.
  • Languages other than English are an asset.
  • Flexible schedule including weekend and evening availability is considered an asset
The candidate must be a resident of Hamilton, Brantford or Brant County, Ontario or be willing to commute. The candidate must be able to utilize and navigate public transit services or have access to a personal car when public transportation to the site is not available. The use of a personal cell phone is also necessary for this role.
