Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager, Student & Guest Services, the incumbent coordinates the effective delivery of all services related to the year-round operation of Student & Guest Services. The operation of Student & Guest Services focuses on the provision of student and reception services to students, guests, staff and faculty of the University and the general public.
During the academic year, the services offered include, but are not limited to the provision of information and student services for residents, addressing resident lock-outs and building maintenance concerns, coordinating parcel distribution and the lost and found, responding to table booking requests for Residence Commons, and providing general information concerning meetings and events on campus.
During the summer conference season, Student & Guest Services provides the above services to residents in addition to acting as a hotel-style front desk for short and long term stay guests to campus. Student & Guest Services supports the planning and execution of a wide variety of conferences which include international delegates, prominent academic seminars, language camps, and professionals.
Qualifications: The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Proven leadership skills;
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve logistical problems;
- A high degree of independence, allowing for initiatives to develop flexibly, quickly and appropriately;
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to foster change in a team environment;
- Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and solid decision-making;
- Ability to provide a high-level of customer service and thorough understanding of the Service Excellence framework;
- Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to interact with a large team, on-campus partners, and the general public;
- A proven ability to elicit and foster trust, develop positive working relationships and work effectively with other professionals;
- The incumbent must exhibit flexibility and demonstrate the ability to adapt workflow and processes to meet organizational needs;
- Ability to work effectively under pressure of high volume in a complex environment with many competing deadlines. Time management abilities are essential;
- Experience in handling financial transactions and balancing daily cashes;
- Strong knowledge of spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel and an overall aptitude for using information technology.
Education and Experience: The above is normally acquired through the completion of a 3 year post-secondary program in hospitality, business or communication as well as 3-4 years of progressively responsible work experience in a client service desk, hospitality or finance administration area, preferably performed in a college or university setting.
