Within this role the Clerk 4 provides administrative support services to the Officers, Chair, Vice-Chairs and Members of the Labour Board. The Board is mandated under various statutes including the Labour Board Act, Trade Union Act, Labour Standards Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Public Interest Disclosure of Wrongdoing Act, Teachers' Collective Bargaining Act as well as other statutues.
Duties of the incumbent include, but are not limited to:
  • word processing of decisions
  • orders
  • correspondence and other types of documents
  • preparing files for use
  • making travel arrangements
  • filing
  • scheduling appointments, meetings and hearings

The Clerk is required to provide logistical and administrative support for hearings and case management conferences including preparation of case documentation and safeguarding material filed.
The Clerk assists officers of the Board by conducting votes; serving notices of application; responding to general inquiries from clients; and efficiently/accurately performing all administrative duties to support the Board.
In addition, the Clerk also provides administrative support to the Division's program areas.
Grade 11 and 5 years related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience, such as a diploma in secretarial studies or office administration may be acceptable.
The successful candidate will possess excellent client service skills, fast and accurate word processing skills; strong grammar and editing abilities; sound judgement; an ability to work with minimal supervision; and a strong work ethic. Advanced skills and familiarity with the entire Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new computer applications is required.
Excellent communication; organization and time management and the ability to work independently is required to succeed in this position. In add ition, this position requires discretion, tact, diplomacy and the ability to appropriately manage confidential information. This is a team environment where positive outcomes depend on co-operative work efforts and excellent interpersonal skills.
Exposure to the work of administrative boards or courts would be considered an asset as well as knowledge of provincial government's STAR/STOR system.
Working conditions may include irregular hours, overtime, and occasional travel. The incumbent must be able to travel in order to serve documents and conduct votes throughout the Province. This may occasionally occur on short notice.

Pay Grade: CL 22
Salary Range: $1,691.00 - $1,871.00 Bi-Weekly
This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
