Job Summary

Founded in 1992, Independent Living Nova Scotia (ILNS) is a registered charity supporting persons with disabilities through programs and services that promote Independent Living. Independent Living is a movement that enables persons with disabilities to remove social and environmental barriers and provides persons with disabilities control and choice within the community. The Independent Living Principles are consumer direction, cross-disability representation, a strong community base and integration and full participation.

Independent Living Nova Scotia (ILNS) is seeking a skilled Program Coordinator to oversee the coordination and administration of all aspects of our most recent program – The TRANSITION - Hotelworx Program- Hotelworx is a sectored based training program for youth with disabilities who face barriers making a successful transition to the world of work.

Responsibilities and Duties

Program Coordinator Activities:

  • Ensure the delivery and ongoing development of the program
  • Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the principles of ILNS in cooperation with staff and delivery partners;
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcomes of the program;
  • Develop a measurable evaluation framework;
  • Administration and supervision of program;
  • In collaboration with our delivery partner, ensure job coaching supports are in place for participants;
  • Supervise program staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team by providing direction, input and support in consultation with the Executive Director; Maintain accurate reports;
  • Recruit program candidates; Take on other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Job Coaching Supervision Activities:
  • Provides effective leadership and management to job coaches;
  • Provides job coach training and ensure standards are met;
  • Establishes and coordinates work duties;
  • Evaluates work sites for suitability;
  • Establishes and evaluates job coach standards of performance

Case Management Activities

  • All participant activities will be documented within the case management document.
  • Assessment, accommodations; as well as any other method of assessment will be documents and progression noted
  • Service Standards regarding information and timely input of such documentation must be adhered to.
  • All staff consensus as well as all disciple issues will be clearly document in client file.
  • All case managers will adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality, code of conduct, policies and procedures regarding all client documentation.

Qualifications and Skills

The Program Coordinator must have a post-secondary degree/training in a relevant discipline coupled with experience in the field and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and work experience. Qualifications and comparable experience in facilitation is required.

  • Knowledge of adult education principles & experience in facilitation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the disability community & disability related issues
  • Experience working with youth with disabilities
  • Experience working with community agencies
  • Understanding of human rights legislation
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Proven knowledge and experience with job coaching
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Proven organizational skills and talents
  • Experience working in a training environment.
  • Comfortable working with standard desktop software and working knowledge of the internet;
  • Solid research techniques;
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable working with standard desktop software and the internet
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable working in a self-directed team environment
  • Ability to adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality, code of conduct, policies and procedures


Paid vacation and earned sick leave

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $21.05 to $22.85 /hour
