Job Summary

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, Events & Partnerships, this position is responsible for assisting in the planning, design and overall coordination of Big Rock events; including sponsored initiatives, industry Tradeshows, Beer Festivals, Big Rock’s own events, Brewery Tours as well as internal employee events. The Marketing Specialist, Events & Partnerships is a creative self-starter that will help develop and execute events and initiatives that further Big Rock’s brand strategy by providing unique and engaging experiences for consumers. As a member of the Marketing Team, this person is accountable for maintaining budgets, working with organizers and collaborating with all business channels at Big Rock to leverage existing and new opportunities. This position will be responsible for leading a team of Brand Ambassadors in Calgary, including hiring, training and scheduling. The regional focus of this role is Alberta and the Calgary Brewery, with limited responsibilities in BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

Responsibilities and Duties

Brewery Events

  • Assist to create, plan and execute both existing and new Brewery Events (Big Rock Owned events); including but not limited to Tours, Private Bookings, Beer School and Festivals
  • Collaborate with all internal departments/channels (Marketing, Sales, Retail, HR, Restaurants) to deliver on business objectives with each event
  • Attend and manage the majority of Calgary brewery events as a lead and host


  • Coordinate and continue to develop Big Rock’s Brewery Tour Program, with a focus on the Calgary Brewery
  • Collaborate and work with Retail, Brewing, Sales, HR and Finance to ensure the program meets all business needs
  • Recruit, screen, hire, train and manage tour guides for the Calgary Brewery and manage individuals’ ongoing performance
  • Work with Retail team to maintain and track tour schedules, attendance and feedback
  • Manage Tour Guide schedules and payroll timesheets (Alberta only)

Employee Events

  • Assist in the coordination and lead the execution of all employee events; including (but not limited to) Christmas Parties, Team Building, BBQ’s, etc.
  • Working closely with Human Resources, and the Social Committee, to ensure goals/objectives are being met and policies followed
  • Maintain detailed and accurate event files; including databases, contact info and budget tracking

Industry Tradeshows & Beer Festivals

  • Coordinate planning, registration, logistics and execution of Big Rock’s participation at Industry Tradeshows and Beer Festivals in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba

Brand Ambassadors – Calgary Brewery

  • Lead the Calgary based Brand Ambassador team, including recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and payroll time-sheets for all Brewery and Sponsored Events as well as Tours and other activities

Qualifications and Skills


  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience (preferably in the beer industry), with experience in organizing events
  • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills
  • Strong budget and organization management skills
  • Experience supervising or managing a diverse group of people
  • Excellent cross functional skills with demonstrated ability to effectively utilize internal resources to meet project deadlines and objectives
  • Knowledge of the local beer industry and community
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly and to ensure they are clearly communicated to an audience


  • Understanding of the marketing and product planning process
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen and assess customer needs, prioritize needs/requirements, and communicate them cross-functionally
  • Excellent leadership, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Outgoing, people-oriented personality
  • Strong relationship building skills to constructively foster relationships internally and externally
  • High level of motivation with the ability to operate as an individual and team contributor

Education Required

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field is required (an alternate combination of formal education and work experience may be considered equivalent) .
