What you’ll be doing…
The Coordinator, Career and Advising Services contributes to the development and implementation of services that aim to create an inclusive and safe learning environment for all members of our diverse learning community. The Coordinator reports to the Manager, Advising, Career and Inclusion, Central Student Services. The Coordinator uses the NSCC Student Services Learning Outcomes Framework and Core Services documentation to coordinate student services programming for all stages of the student life cycle. This work is informed by student development theory, workforce adjustment theory, career development theory, and learning theory.
The Coordinator assists Central Student Services in the development of strategic programs and services as it relates to NSCC’s Student Services Advising practice with a focus on career and employment and wellness. The Coordinator works with Campus Student Services staff in coordinating orientation, training and assessment initiatives. The Coordinator works collaboratively with campus teams including advisors and counsellors to ensure resources, tools and services are developed and maintained to meet identified student needs. The Coordinator incorporates student success programming that is proactive and includes aspects of wellness strategies, career development/career management, advising services, counseling services and other learning interventions that support whole student development.

Minimum qualifications:
  • You must possess a Masters in a related field such as Counselling, Social Work, Divinity or Sociology/Humanities)
Minimum experience:
  • You must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant occupational experience in career counselling or career advising services.
Minimum skills and ability:
  • You are an excellent communicator, who possesses proven superb interpersonal, problem solving, and negotiating skills. You are able to build strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders on campus, such as faculty, staff, as well as students.
  • You also possess a proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, working in a team environment.
As a condition of employment, Professional Support Employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Faculty of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees who are employed for twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
