. General shipboard maintenance and husbandry, and performance of deck operations as part of work programs aboard a Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada ship as directed by the Commanding Officer, Boatswain or Coxswain.
. Maintains deck equipment and machinery, shipboard cleanliness and husbandry, performs seamanship duties, carpentry work and simple repairs to engines.
. Stands a watch at sea and in port, on the bridge as a lookout, or at the forecastle as a bow lookout.
. Assists in the lifting, placing and the maintenance of floating and fixed aids to navigation, such as cleaning, painting, general site upkeep and repairs, carpentry, concrete and other construction work.
. Assists in Search and Rescue, Environmental Response, Icebreaking, Scientific, Hydrographic, and Fisheries operations.
. Assists in the launching, recovery and manning of small boats in support of the ship's assigned tasks.
. Assists in loading, stowing, securing and discharging of cargo and supplies, and in delivering equipment and stores ashore.
. Participates in shipboard safety drills fire, ship abandonment, damage control, recovery of persons overboard, and assists in the testing of safety equipment and systems.
. Provides all support necessary to ensure Canadian Coast Guard meets its mandate. Work environment

The purpose of this process is to create a inventory of candidates that will be used to fill in temporary needs for vessel crew stations in the CCG, in the region of Central and Arctic - St Lawrence sector. We expect the established directory will be used for 2015, 2016 and 2017 with possibility of extension.
The second withdrawal of candidatures will be held the 22th February 2016. All subsequent withdrawal of applications will occur based on operational needs. Positions to be filled:

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. High School Diploma or possess an acceptable combination of experience and/or training in a domain linked to the position.
STCW Basic Safety Training curriculum (the old MED A1 Basic Safety / MED B2). If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)
Diploma in pertinent occupational training (DEP) in construction, mechanics, welding or any field deemed pertinent by the Selection Board.
Seamanship training issued by a recognized institution.
Certified training certificates - industry related such as WHMIS, Fall Arrest, Crane Operations, enter in confined space.
STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats, other than Fast Rescue Boats, curriculum (the old B1 Survival Craft).
Bridge Watchman Certificate (BW) (or higher level) issued by Transports Canada with STCW mention.
Valid First Aid Certificate.
Pertinent work experience in construction, mechanics, welding or any other field deemed pertinent by the Selection Board.
Experience as a deckhand aboard a government vessel.
Experience as a deckhand aboard a commercial vessel.
Work experience in a maritime environment.
CCG specific program experience i.e. Aids to Navigation, Search and Rescue, Icebreaking, Science, Maritime Security. The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Valid medical certificate.
Agreement to being deployed anywhere in Canada or assigned to different navigation activities.
Must have completed STCW Basic Safety Training curriculum (replaces the old MED A1 Basic Safety / MED B2).
Must have completed STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats, other than Fast Rescue Boats, curriculum (replaces the old B1 Survival Craft) within six months following the beginning date of employment.
Agree to work onboard CCG ships and go to sea for extended periods and work long hours under adverse sea conditions.
Agree to wear the uniform in the prescribed manner, as well as the mandatory personal protective equipment. For the NEW EMPLOYEES: Employees must purchase protective footwear that meets the CSA standard at their own expense before employment begins.
Must be willing to take training in respiratory protection and wear a breathing apparatus. In compliance with the rules and instructions regarding the wearing of a breathing apparatus on board CCG vessels, employees must obtain and maintain a non-leaking face piece-to-skin seal with the mask of the breathing apparatus.
Agree to travel by land, air and water.
Possess a valid Canadian passport in the case of appointments to vessels governed by this requirement. Other information
